Bellarmine baseball lost 6-3 to Central Arkansas in the series finale at Knights Field on April 26, as the Bears completed a weekend sweep.
The game saw Bellarmine take an early lead with two runs in the first inning. Landon Akers started with a double, followed by AJ Swader’s RBI double and Eli Watson’s run-scoring double. This gave Bellarmine a 2-0 advantage after one inning.
Central Arkansas responded with a two-run home run in the third inning to tie the game, then took a 3-2 lead in the fourth on another solo home run. Swader answered for Bellarmine in the sixth, hitting his tenth home run of the season to even things at three runs each. The home run moved Swader into a tie for fifth-most home runs in a single season during Bellarmine’s Division I era.
In the later innings, Central Arkansas regained control by scoring on a wild pitch in the eighth and adding two more runs in the ninth. Akers and Swader each recorded two hits for Bellarmine, while Watson also had multiple hits and an RBI.
Bellarmine is scheduled to return to Knights Field on Wednesday to host Morehead State at 3 p.m. Eastern Time.
