Bellarmine University’s softball team ended a 12-game losing streak on April 18 by winning the first game of a doubleheader against Lipscomb University, finishing with a score of 4-2 at Draper Diamond in Nashville. The Knights lost the second game of the day, falling to the Bisons 5-1.

The victory in game one brought Bellarmine’s record to 11-32 overall and 4-13 in conference play. The Knights took an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning, capitalizing on a wild pitch and a bases-loaded walk. In the third inning, sophomore pitcher Lele Bennett hit her sixth home run of the season, followed by senior Madison Davis adding another run with an RBI single down the right field line.

Lipscomb responded with two runs in their half of the third inning through a two-RBI double but was held scoreless for the remainder of the opener. Bennett pitched six innings, allowing five hits and two runs while striking out four batters and walking four. Sophomore Makenzie Cowburn closed out the seventh inning to earn her first career save after working around three base runners and recording two strikeouts.

In game two, Lipscomb scored first with an RBI double. Bellarmine tied it up in the third when sophomore Lauren Guthrie delivered a sacrifice fly to left field. However, Lipscomb regained control with an RBI triple in the fifth inning and added three more runs in the sixth to secure their win.

Guthrie and freshman Jayla Manning were responsible for Bellarmine’s only hits during game two. The teams are scheduled to conclude their series on Sunday, April 19 at Draper Diamond.
