The Bellarmine University softball team lost to Austin Peay 11-3 on April 4 after taking an early lead at Cathi Maynard Park in Clarksville, Tennessee.

The game saw Bellarmine (10-27, 3-9 ASUN) start strong in the first inning. Senior Jacklyn Zuege led off with a single, followed by walks from freshman Jayla Manning and sophomore Peyton Arnold to load the bases. Freshman Tia Ice then hit a single up the middle, bringing in two runs. Sophomore Lauren Guthrie added another run with an RBI single, giving Bellarmine a 3-0 advantage.

Austin Peay (24-15, 6-3 ASUN) responded by changing pitchers and preventing further scoring in the opening frame. The Governors scored one run in the second inning and tied the game at three with two more runs in the third. They continued their momentum by adding four runs each in both the fourth and fifth innings, resulting in an 11-3 win via mercy rule.

Guthrie and junior Kendall Gaddie each recorded two hits for Bellarmine during the contest.

Bellarmine is scheduled to return home for a three-game series against Central Arkansas on April 11 and 12 at Knights Field.
