Bellarmine University softball marked its senior day on April 25 by splitting a doubleheader against Eastern Kentucky at Knights Field. The Knights won the first game 4-3 and narrowly lost the second game 5-4.
The event was significant as it honored seniors Madison Davis, Addison Kerr, Jacklyn Zuege, and Elli Jensen for their contributions to the team. The opening game saw Bellarmine respond to an early deficit with key performances from freshman Tia Ice, who hit a solo home run, and junior Nicole Waters, who delivered a go-ahead home run in the sixth inning. Sophomore pitcher Lele Bennett secured her seventh win of the season with a complete game effort.
In the second matchup, Bellarmine took an early lead but could not hold off Eastern Kentucky’s late surge. Despite efforts from Ice and Waters—each recording two hits—the Knights fell short by one run after EKU scored three runs in the fifth inning.
The games showcased strong individual performances from underclassmen such as Ice, Waters, Jayla Manning, Lauren Guthrie, and Lily Jones. Bennett’s pitching performance moved her into second place all-time for single-season wins during Bellarmine’s Division I era.
Looking ahead, Bellarmine will face Eastern Kentucky again on Sunday for the final home game of the season.
