Louisville  – Councilman Ben Reno-Weber (D-8) invites District 8 students to join in the celebration of National Civic Learning Week by participating in the District 8 Civic Family Tree initiative. This project seeks to foster civic education and involvement within the community.

National Civic Learning Week, observed from March 11-15, 2024, serves as a platform for students, educators, policymakers, and leaders nationwide to advocate for civic education.

Beginning on Monday, March 11, 2024, students attending elementary, middle, and high schools in District 8 are invited to create their personal Civic Family Tree. Interested students can access submission forms and guidelines on the District 8 website (www.louisvilleky.gov/district8) starting Monday. The deadline for submissions is Friday, April 26, 2024.

“I hope this project will empower the youth in our community by igniting their voices and inspiring action for a better future,” said Councilman Reno-Weber.

District 8 staff will select one Civic Family Tree from each school in District 8 for display at Louisville City Hall. The selected students will also receive an official proclamation.

Throughout the week, the District 8 office will share examples of their own Civic Family Trees, showcasing the diverse elements that contribute to fostering active and engaged members of the community.
