Louisville – Councilwoman Jennifer Chappell (D-15) is hosting two neighborhood planning sessions to create a plan to transform the Lucky Horseshoe neighborhood.
At the meetings you’ll help the District 15 office prepare for the inaugural Building Our Blocks (B.O.B.) event that will be happening on Saturday, April 6, 2024.
B.O.B. is a one-day event that improves a neighborhood through a series of volunteer projects and events. The goal of B.O.B. is to bring city services directly into neighborhoods to help solve issues and address community needs.
“I’m thrilled to bring this project to fruition in the Lucky Horseshoe neighborhood. These community-led, non-profit partnered, and Metro supported events are exactly what neighborhoods need. After this inaugural event, I hope to expand the B.O.B. program to all areas of District 15 because I’m excited for Louisville to finally be proactive in their efforts to better our citizen’s lives instead of being reactive,” said Councilwoman Chappell.
The two planning sessions will be held on Tuesday, January 16, from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m. and Saturday, January 27, from 10:00 – 11:30 a.m. at the Kentucky Derby Museum, 2nd floor gallery, located at 704 Central Avenue.
The Lucky Horseshoe B.O.B. event in April will include tree plantings with Louisville Grows, rain barrel installations, home repairs with New Directions Housing Corporation, an animal vaccine clinic through LMAS, neighborhood and alley clean-ups, LMPD safety consultations, smoke detector installation and inspection with Louisville Fire Department, Homestead Exemption exploration with the PVA, lead testing kit distribution, food trucks, and informational area, and a whole lot more.
Councilwoman Chappell will also be working with Codes & Regulations to address violations in the neighborhood, Public Works to install speed humps, repair sidewalks, and replace/install trash and recycling receptacles, Office of Arts & Creative Industries on public projects and mural, and Solid Waste Management Services to collect junk and recyclable items.
The Lucky Horseshoe neighborhood was chosen as the pilot neighborhood due to its smaller size and centralized location in the district.
The Lucky Horseshoe neighborhood is bound by Central Avenue to the north, Oakdale Avenue to the east, Longfield Avenue to the south, and Taylor Boulevard to the west.
There are several ways you can get involved in this program including, but not limited to, leading a specific project, organizing a volunteer group or volunteering, canvassing the neighborhood, providing literature or free give-a-ways, sponsoring a table at the event, or sharing an idea.
