University of Louisville men’s track and field athlete Elsingi Kipruto was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Freshman of the Week, according to an April 28 announcement by the ACC.

Kipruto achieved this recognition after setting a new meet and facility record in the men’s 5000 meters at the Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational. He completed his first outdoor collegiate race at that distance with a time of 13:32.00.

This performance moved Kipruto to second place in program history for the event. His time also currently ranks fifth among all runners in the Atlantic Coast Conference and twenty-seventh nationally in the National Collegiate Athletic Association for this season. In addition, he leads all NCAA athletes in the men’s 10,000 meters with an ACC-record time of 27:29.83, which he set at the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 16.

The honor marks Kipruto’s second consecutive week receiving this award and is his seventh overall recognition across cross country, indoor track and field, and outdoor track and field seasons.

The University of Louisville Cardinals will conclude their regular season this weekend as they compete at both the Payton Jordan Invitational in Stanford, California on May 1 and at the Jim Green Invitational in Lexington, Kentucky from May 1-2.
