University of Louisville men’s track and field sophomore Geoffrey Kirwa was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Track Athlete of the Week, according to an announcement by the ACC on Apr. 7.

Kirwa’s recognition comes after his performance at the Stanford Invitational, where he recorded a 5000-meter time of 13:21.49. This result leads all runners in the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranks second nationally among NCAA athletes. The time also broke his own previous program record by nearly ten seconds; Kirwa had set that mark at last year’s Stanford Invitational with a time of 13:30.83.

This is the second occasion that Kirwa has earned this weekly conference honor during his collegiate career. He previously received it last April after posting what was then the second-fastest collegiate time ever in the 3000-meter steeplechase at the Bryan Clay Invitational in 2025.

The Louisville Cardinals are scheduled to compete again when their throwers participate in the Oklahoma Throws Series from Apr. 9-11 in Ramona, Oklahoma.
