The University of Louisville baseball team lost 10-8 to Duke in a closely contested game on April 3 in Durham. The matchup saw five lead changes, with four coming in the final four innings.
The result leaves Louisville with an overall record of 18-13 and a conference record of 4-7. Duke improves to 21-12 overall and is now even at 7-7 in Atlantic Coast Conference play.
After trailing early, Louisville took its first lead in the sixth inning when Bayram Hot hit a two-run home run, his sixth of the season. Griffin Crain later added another run with a swinging bunt that scored Kade Elam. However, Duke responded quickly with runs on a wild pitch and a two-run single before finishing the inning ahead.
In the seventh inning, Zion Rose hit his third home run of the season for Louisville. Elam followed up by hitting another home run that put the Cardinals back on top temporarily. Despite these efforts, Duke narrowed the gap with a solo homer and secured victory with a three-run shot in the eighth inning.
Wyatt Danilowicz started for Louisville but did not factor into the decision after allowing five runs over five and two-thirds innings pitched. Offensively, Elam finished three-for-five at bat with four runs batted in and two runs scored while Hot also went three-for-five driving in two runs and scoring three times. Crain, Rose, and Davis each contributed two hits.
Louisville will conclude its weekend series against Duke on Sunday at noon Eastern Time.
