The University of Louisville baseball team defeated Clemson 13-10 on April 25 at Jim Patterson Stadium, overcoming two rain delays during the game.
This win marks Louisville’s third consecutive victory and its first opening win in an Atlantic Coast Conference series this season. The Cardinals now hold a record of 24-18 overall and 8-11 in conference play, while Clemson stands at 26-17 overall and 6-13 in the ACC.
Clemson started with a solo home run in the first inning, but Louisville responded as Zion Rose drew a walk followed by Tague Davis hitting a two-run homer. Davis’s home run was his twenty-fifth of the season, tying the school’s single-season record previously set by Randy Delph in 1974 and Chris Dominguez in 2009. After another Clemson home run tied the game at two runs each, errors allowed Louisville to pull ahead in the fourth inning.
Louisville extended its lead with a five-run sixth inning highlighted by Ben Slanker’s three-run homer. Rain delayed play twice during the night, including one stoppage that lasted over an hour. After resuming play, both teams continued to score, with Clemson narrowing the gap late before Ty Starke secured the final out for Louisville with a strikeout.
All nine starting players for Louisville recorded hits during the game. Five had multiple hits, including Davis and Slanker who each drove in three runs. Wyatt Danilowicz earned his fourth win of the season after pitching five innings with four runs allowed and five strikeouts.
The series between Louisville and Clemson will continue on Saturday night at Jim Patterson Stadium.
