The University of Louisville women’s volleyball team defeated the University of Kentucky 3-1 in their final spring match on April 17 at Historic Memorial Coliseum.
This match concluded the spring season for both teams. The rivalry between Louisville and Kentucky often draws attention from fans and players alike, highlighting the significance of this victory for the Cardinals.
Redshirt freshman Chloe Meester led Louisville with eight kills, a .500 hitting percentage, seven aces, and a block. The Cardinals recorded set scores of 25-15, 19-25, 25-10, and 25-16 while hitting .367 as a team. They also posted strong defensive numbers with 14 blocks and added offensive pressure with 11 aces. Chloe Chicoine contributed eight kills on .318 hitting along with a team-high 14 digs and three blocks. Kalyssa Blackshear matched her teammates with eight kills and added five blocks to the effort. Setter Nayelis Cabello tallied 20 assists, an ace, four blocks, and three kills.
Kentucky finished with a .148 hitting percentage alongside six blocks and forty digs. Brooklyn Deleye led all players with thirteen kills but was held to just .071 hitting efficiency by Louisville’s defense. Morgan Gaerte contributed eleven kills and two blocks for Kentucky while setter Kassie O’Brien registered thirty-six assists plus ten digs. Libero Molly Tuozzo anchored the defense for Kentucky with fourteen digs and four assists.
With this win over their rivals in Lexington, Louisville closes out its spring schedule on a positive note.
