The University of Louisville women’s lacrosse team lost to No. 10 Stanford, 22-5, in an Atlantic Coast Conference game on April 4 at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium.
The result highlights a challenging road contest for Louisville, which saw five different players score during the match. Ella Berg and Reese Whiteman each scored once, maintaining their tie for the team lead with 29 goals this season. Charlotte Jackson, Mia Lusardi, and Grayce Kitchen also contributed one goal apiece, while Elizabeth Shean recorded an assist. Goalkeeper Haley Richards made eight saves.
Stanford started strong with a six-goal run before Berg put Louisville on the scoreboard late in the first quarter. Jackson followed with another goal off a pass from Shean to end the frame at 6-2 in favor of Stanford. The Cardinal then extended their lead by scoring five consecutive goals early in the second quarter before Lusardi ended that streak with a free position shot.
At halftime, Stanford led 13-3. In the third quarter, Kitchen scored first for Louisville as both teams exchanged goals; however, Louisville trailed entering the final period by nine points. Stanford dominated the fourth quarter by scoring eight unanswered goals to secure victory.
Stanford outshot Louisville on goal by a margin of 30-11 and held advantages in draw controls (18-12) and ground balls (23-12). Ava Arceri led all scorers with six goals and one assist for Stanford while Olivia Scroggie earned eight draw controls for her team.
