The University of Louisville men’s golf team lost to Virginia 3-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference Men’s Golf Championship quarterfinals on April 26. The match took place at Shark’s Tooth Golf Course, where the Cardinals competed less than a day after making their first appearance in ACC match play.
This event marked a significant moment for Louisville, as it was the team’s debut in the ACC Match Play Quarterfinals. Despite their efforts, they were unable to secure a win against No. 2 seed Virginia, which advanced to the semifinals.
Virginia earned victories through Paul Chang, Ben James, and Michael Lee. Chang and James won their matches with scores of 6&4 and 4&2 against Louisville players. Michael Lee secured Virginia’s advancement by defeating Warren Thomis on the first playoff hole with a birdie on the par-4 tenth hole.
Other matches included Andrew Tan leading Bryan Lee by two holes when their match was called final, while Easton Johnson was tied with Josh Duangmanee heading into the last hole before play ended due to darkness. The semifinal between Virginia and North Carolina will resume on Monday morning.
Louisville will now wait for NCAA Regional announcements scheduled for May 6 at 2 p.m., which will determine if they continue postseason play.
