The University of Louisville men’s golf team will return to Naples, Florida, for the 6th annual Calusa Cup at Calusa Pines Golf Club, according to an April 4 announcement. The tournament will take place over three days from April 5 through April 7.
The event is important as it marks the conclusion of the regular season for Louisville and brings together a strong field of collegiate teams. Teams set to compete include No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Florida, No. 43 Purdue, No. 47 South Florida, Miami (Ohio), and Eastern Michigan.
Florida has won the Calusa Cup in each of the past two years and will aim to defend its title during this year’s competition. Each day will feature one round of play for a total of three rounds or 54 holes by the end of Tuesday.
Louisville’s lineup includes Cooper Claycomb, who holds a stroke average of 71.50 and recently won the Michael A. Marino Classic; Brady Smith with four top-20 finishes this season; Warren Thomis with two top-10 finishes in spring tournaments; Andrew Tan making his seventh appearance after finishing fourteenth at Bearcat; and Easton Johnson who tied for eighth at the Minnesota Golf Classic.
Calusa Pines Golf Club is known for its memorable design and natural-looking landforms that blend into native vegetation. It was named among “Top Ten Best New Private Clubs” in the United States by Golf Digest.
