Louisville men’s tennis wins close match against Virginia Tech

The University of Louisville men’s tennis team won a closely contested match against Virginia Tech, 4-3, on April 3 at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center in Blacksburg, Virginia.

The outcome was uncertain throughout the evening as both teams exchanged points. Virginia Tech took an early lead by securing the doubles point after victories on courts three and one. Louisville did not hold a lead until clinching the final singles match.

Sophomore Matei Onofrei was the first to finish for Louisville, coming from behind to win his top court singles debut with scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. The Hokies responded by winning on court two to regain their advantage. Hamza El Amine then tied it up for Louisville with a three-set victory on court four before Virginia Tech once again pulled ahead with another singles win.

Louis Chusseau evened the score for Louisville after a tough three-set battle on court six. With the overall match tied and only one contest remaining, Pedro Cressoni overcame a third set deficit to secure victory for Louisville with a final score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-4.

Louisville now holds a record of 17 wins and 10 losses overall and is scheduled to play No. 4 ranked Virginia in its next match on Sunday, April 5 at 1 p.m.
