The University of Louisville softball team achieved two run-rule victories against Pittsburgh on April 17 at Ulmer Stadium, winning the games 9-1 and 10-2 in five innings each.

These wins are significant as they strengthen Louisville’s record to 37-9 overall and 12-5 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The team’s performance included strong offensive and defensive plays that contributed to decisive outcomes in both games.

Madison Pickens led the Cardinals’ offense, going a perfect seven-for-seven at the plate with seven runs batted in across both games. In game one, Pickens recorded four hits including a double and a triple, while she followed up with three more hits including a home run in game two. Pitchers Alyssa Zabala and Brooke Gray each secured their eleventh win of the season by allowing only one earned run combined through four innings apiece. Bri Despines contributed significantly with five RBIs over the two contests.

Game one also saw Chelsea Mack set a new single-season stolen base record for Louisville by swiping her thirty-sixth base. Jordan Williams extended her hitting streak to eighteen consecutive games, marking another program milestone. Key moments included multiple triples from Despines and Lotus, as well as timely hitting from Williams who broke the school’s hitting streak record during this series.

Pittsburgh managed just three runs across both matchups while struggling against Louisville’s pitching staff. Anna Wise made an impact late in game two by striking out three straight batters to prevent Pitt from closing the gap.

The series between Louisville and Pittsburgh is scheduled to conclude on Sunday, April 19 at 4 p.m., with coverage available on ACC Network.
