The University of Louisville baseball team will conclude its five-game road trip with a matchup against Kentucky in the first Battle of the Bluegrass game of the spring, scheduled for Tuesday night. The game is set for a 5:30 p.m. ET start and will be televised on the SEC Network, with radio coverage available on 93.9 The Ville.
This rivalry marks the 118th meeting between Louisville and Kentucky, with Kentucky holding a historical advantage in the series at 66-50-1 and leading games played in Lexington by a margin of 36-19. Last season, each team won once on its home field. Since Kentucky Proud Park opened in Lexington in 2019, Louisville has won three out of four games there but suffered its first loss at that venue last year.
Louisville enters this contest after dropping two out of three games over the weekend against Duke but managed to secure a win in Saturday’s final matchup with a score of 9-4. Under head coach Dan McDonnell, Louisville holds an impressive record against teams from within Kentucky (105-26) and boasts an .811 winning percentage (202-47) in regular season non-conference play since 2016.
The Cardinals are currently ranked among the top fifteen nationally across several offensive categories including batting average, hits, runs scored per game, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, and triples. Freshman Tague Davis has set a new school record for home runs by a freshman with eighteen this season and leads all players nationally with sixty-two RBIs. Sophomore Zion Rose has also made significant contributions when healthy; despite missing time due to injury this year, he is hitting .553 across ten starts while remaining perfect in stolen base attempts.
Other notable performances include freshman Kade Elam’s recent improvement at bat following early struggles—he tallied six hits including two home runs during last weekend’s series—and senior Bayram Hot’s consistent play at third base while leading his team with a .419 batting average.
