Louisville track and field teams record six top-three finishes at Jim Green Invitational

The University of Louisville track and field teams began competition at the Jim Green Invitational on May 1, combining for six individual top-three finishes during the opening day in Lexington, Kentucky.

The event saw Ashley Callahan secure her second outdoor season victory by clearing 4.30 meters in the women’s pole vault. Ryan Farrell also achieved a win in the invitational section of the men’s 800 meters with a time of 1:48.04, while Brendan Ruggles finished third in that event with a time of 1:50.37.

In javelin, Ryan Drwal finished as runner-up in the men’s competition after throwing a personal best of 60.43 meters on his final attempt, which improved his standing as second all-time in program history. Gianna Rotelli placed third in the women’s javelin throw with a mark of 43.41 meters, moving her up to fourth place in Louisville’s record books.

Demaria King claimed third place in the women’s hammer throw with a distance of 53.28 meters, while Aja Johnson set a personal record and finished fifth at 52.03 meters.

Competition will continue tomorrow starting at 10:30 a.m., featuring events such as the women’s discus throw and men’s shot put, followed by track events beginning at 12:55 p.m.
