The University of Louisville track and field teams will participate in five different meets this weekend as they return to competition after a week of limited activity, according to an April 14 announcement.

This multi-meet approach allows the Cardinals to send athletes across several events, providing opportunities for both seasoned competitors and newcomers. The team will be represented at the Mt. SAC Relays, Bryan Clay Invitational, Pacific Coast Invitational, Beach Invitational, and Virginia Challenge.

At the Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California on April 15-16, KJ Byrd is set to compete in his first decathlon since placing fourth at last year’s NCAA Outdoor Championships. Byrd recently broke both American and NCAA records for heptathlon pole vault with a clearance of 5.57 meters during the NCAA Indoor Championships in March. Lucy Fellows will also take part in the women’s heptathlon just two weeks after her outdoor season debut.

The Bryan Clay Invitational will see Louisville’s distance squad travel to Azusa, California from April 16-18. Geoffrey Kirwa aims to defend his men’s 3000-meter steeplechase title after achieving the second-fastest time in collegiate history last year. Freshman Elsingi Kipruto is expected to make his outdoor collegiate debut following recognition as ACC Men’s Freshman of the Year for both indoor track and cross country seasons.

Sprinters, throwers, and pole vaulters are scheduled for competition at Long Beach State University’s Jack Rose Track during the Pacific Coast Invitational on April 16 and Beach Invitational from April 17-18. Ashley Callahan returns after clearing an NCAA-leading bar earlier this month while Iliana Triantafyllou makes her outdoor season debut following her first qualification for NCAA Championships indoors.

The Virginia Challenge rounds out the weekend with jumpers competing on April 17-18 at Lannigan Field in Charlottesville, Virginia. The women’s long jump group enters ranked top nationally by USTFCCCA Event Squad Rankings with an average mark of 6.41 meters.
