U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued a statement following State Senator Jimmy Higdon’s announcement that he will not seek reelection. McConnell described Higdon as “a legislative titan of the Kentucky General Assembly” and highlighted his contributions to transportation and infrastructure in Kentucky.

McConnell referenced several projects on which they collaborated, including the Brent Spence Bridge, the Mountain Parkway in Eastern Kentucky, and the I-69 bridge in Henderson, Kentucky. He said, “His devotion to making the Commonwealth a better place through his work on transportation and infrastructure issues leaves behind an enduring legacy for generations to come.”

While expressing regret at Higdon’s retirement, McConnell noted his confidence that Higdon would continue to have an impact during the remainder of his term. He added, “I’m grateful for his more than 20 years of service to Kentucky, and for his several decades of friendship. Elaine and I wish him, Jane, and his entire family well in the next chapter of their lives.”
