Morgan McGarvey, a current U.S. Congress member representing Kentuckyās 3rd district, has been vocal on social media about various governmental and community issues. His recent tweets address concerns over government operations, educational opportunities for youth, and healthcare policies.
On May 14, 2025, McGarvey criticized the approach of “Move fast and break things” in government operations. He expressed concern that such an approach could harm essential services: “Not when you’re breaking veterans benefits, Social Security checks, and a parent’s ability to put food on the table.”
Later that day, McGarvey announced the opening of the Congressional App Challenge for Louisville middle and high school students. He emphasized its importance in developing STEM skills: “NOW OPEN: The Congressional App Challenge is open to all Louisville middle and high schoolers regardless of coding experienceāit’s a great way to develop STEM skills and make a difference in our community!” The deadline for applications is October 30.
In another tweet on May 14, McGarvey criticized Medicaid work requirements proposed by Republicans. He argued these requirements create unnecessary obstacles: “Medicaid work requirements are just another way for Republicans to cut Medicaid without having to admit that’s what they’re doing.” He further stated that these measures would take healthcare away from children and families.
Morgan McGarvey has served in the U.S. Congress since 2023 after replacing John Yarmuth. Before his congressional role, he was part of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 and served in the Kentucky Senate from 2013 to 2023. Born in Louisville in 1979, McGarvey holds degrees from the University of Missouri and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
