U.S. Representative Morgan McGarvey, who serves Kentucky’s 3rd district, addressed several topics on his social media accounts this week, including service academy nominations for Louisville students, coal miner welfare, and concerns over former President Donald Trump’s actions regarding free speech.
On September 18, McGarvey reminded local students about the opportunity to apply for service academy nominations through his office: “REMINDER: Louisville students can apply for service academy nominations through my office until October 31! Later that day, McGarvey commented on legislative efforts related to the coal industry: “Republicans have made it clear they’re for coal — I’m for the men and women who mine the coal. I can’t support a bill that wastes our time while doing nothing for the health, safety, and wellbeing of coal miners. They deserve better. https://t.co/hA9AlGsF3h” (posted September 18, 2025).
On September 19, McGarvey criticized former President Donald Trump’s approach to dissenting voices: “Trump is silencing his critics and it should terrify everyone. Freedom of speech protects us all. Trump thinks it only applies when he agrees with what’s being said. I join @RepYassAnsari in condemning these attacks and will continue fighting Trump’s actions and hypocrisy. https://t.co/VA8auwrSH8” (posted September 19, 2025).
McGarvey has represented Kentucky’s 3rd District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Yarmuth. Before joining Congress, he served in both the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 and the Kentucky Senate from 2013 to 2023. Born in Louisville in 1979, McGarvey holds degrees from the University of Missouri and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
