Morgan McGarvey, a current U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 3rd district, has recently shared several statements via social media addressing both artistic achievements and healthcare policy concerns.

On May 6, 2025, McGarvey announced the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition, Gwyneth McMahon’s piece titled “Illuminous.” He expressed his enthusiasm for the artwork by stating “I’m so excited to announce that the winner of this year’s Congressional Art Competition is Gwyneth McMahon’s piece ‘Illuminous’.” He further noted his anticipation of seeing the artwork regularly at the Capitol as a testament to the creativity of Louisville high school students.

Later on May 6, McGarvey addressed healthcare issues in Kentucky through another post. He highlighted that “Almost half of kids in Kentucky get health care through Medicaid. Republicans want to gut it.” Emphasizing potential negative impacts, he stated that proposed cuts would be devastating and affirmed his commitment to opposing such measures to protect children’s healthcare.

Continuing his focus on healthcare policy, on May 7, McGarvey criticized Republican budget proposals. He warned that if enacted, these proposals could result in millions losing health coverage, including vulnerable groups like children with disabilities and veterans. He remarked “If Republicans get what they want, millions of Americans will lose health coverage — kids with disabilities, veterans, seniors, and so many more.” Furthermore, he described their budget as a “scam,” suggesting it prioritizes campaign promises to wealthy donors over public welfare.

Morgan McGarvey has been serving in Congress since 2023 after replacing John Yarmuth. Before this role, he was a member of the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 and served in the Kentucky Senate from 2013 to 2023. Born in Louisville in 1979 and holding degrees from the University of Missouri and University of Kentucky College of Law, McGarvey continues to reside in Louisville.
