Representative Morgan McGarvey, who has served Kentucky’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress since 2023, recently addressed food insecurity and community engagement in a series of social media posts. McGarvey, a Louisville native with prior experience in both the Kentucky House of Representatives and Senate, highlighted challenges facing Kentuckians as well as efforts to support local communities.
On July 9, 2025, McGarvey raised concerns about food insecurity among vulnerable populations in Kentucky. He stated that “Too many of our kids, veterans, and seniors don’t get enough to eat. Now, 50,000 Kentuckians are at risk of losing their next meal. Donald Trump and Republicans in Congress don’t care.”
The following day, on July 10, 2025, McGarvey shared his participation in a local food bank initiative. He wrote that he “Had a great morning stocking shelves for the USDA delivery of food at the South Louisville Community Ministries food bank. As we plan for an uncertain future, we’ll keep working together to make sure Louisvillians are fed, no matter what happens in DC.”
On July 11, 2025, McGarvey discussed his visit to the Somali Community Center in Beechmont. He remarked that “Great meeting at the Somali Community Center in Beechmont yesterday. Nearly 20,000 Somalis are our neighbors in Louisville — our diversity is one of our city’s greatest assets!”
Morgan McGarvey was born in Louisville in 1979 and continues to reside there. He holds a BA from the University of Missouri and earned his JD from the University of Kentucky College of Law in 2007.
