Rep. Morgan McGarvey, U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 3rd district and Louisville native, posted a series of statements on social media over the weekend and Monday, addressing both Vietnam War Veterans Day and ongoing concerns regarding justice for Breonna Taylor.
On March 29, McGarvey acknowledged the contributions of Vietnam veterans, stating: “On Vietnam War Veterans Day, we take a moment to honor the service of those who served our country during the Vietnam War, many of whom did not receive the recognition they earned when they returned home. Today, and every day, we are grateful for all they sacrificed.”
The following day, he highlighted local efforts in Louisville to recognize these veterans: “Louisville is home to so many men and women who served our country during the Vietnam War. This weekend, we paid tribute to their service with a pinning ceremony. We are eternally grateful for the tremendous impact these men and women have made on this country.” The pinning ceremony was part of broader commemorative activities taking place across communities nationwide.
Later on March 30, McGarvey addressed developments related to Breonna Taylor’s case: “Since he took office, Trump has repeatedly undermined our city’s efforts to deliver justice for Breonna Taylor and her loved ones. They claim this decision is ‘in the interest of justice’ — it’s the opposite.” The remarks refer to actions taken by former President Donald Trump’s administration that McGarvey argues have hindered accountability in high-profile police-involved incidents.
Morgan McGarvey has represented Kentucky’s 3rd District in Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Yarmuth. He previously served in both chambers of Kentucky’s state legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Louisville in 1979, McGarvey holds degrees from the University of Missouri (BA) and University of Kentucky College of Law (JD). He continues to reside in Louisville while serving his constituents at the federal level.
