Rep. Morgan McGarvey, who represents Kentucky’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, posted a series of tweets on November 11 and 12 reflecting on Veterans Day commemorations and a recent tragedy in Louisville.
On November 11, McGarvey attended a Veterans Day gathering with local veterans, writing: “Since 1996, members of the Shawnee American Legion Post 196 have gathered on Veterans Day to remember all who gave their lives so that we can live in peace. I was humbled and honored to stand with them today.”
Later that day, he recognized Vietnam War veterans in his community: “Our city is home to so many men and women who served our country during the Vietnam War. When they returned home, too many did not receive the honor and recognition they earned. I was proud to host a pinning ceremony to pay tribute to their service.”
On November 12, McGarvey addressed the aftermath of a fatal plane crash in Louisville: “One week ago, we lost 14 of our neighbors to the unimaginable tragedy of a UPS plane crashing. We’re still hurting. But faith leaders gathered tonight and so many showed up to grieve, mourn, support, and comfort. Together. Because that’s community. That’s Louisville.”
Morgan McGarvey began serving as Kentucky’s representative for the 3rd congressional district in 2023 after replacing John Yarmuth. He previously held positions in both chambers of Kentucky’s state legislature between 2013 and 2023. Born in Louisville in 1979, McGarvey has longstanding ties to the city he now represents at the federal level.
