Rep. Morgan McGarvey, who represents Kentucky’s 3rd district in the U.S. Congress, addressed the ongoing government shutdown and its consequences in a series of posts on October 15, 2025.
In his first post at 18:00 UTC, McGarvey wrote, “The government is shut down, and health care is about to get a lot more expensive. Democrats are here in Washington, ready to fight to keep costs down. Where are Republicans when it matters most?”
Later that evening, at 20:04 UTC, McGarvey commented on immigration enforcement under former President Donald Trump, stating, “Trump is tearing families apart as he makes ICE his personal police force. It’s horrifying and blatantly authoritarian. We cannot be silent.”
In a subsequent post at 21:15 UTC, McGarvey added, “These are peoples’ livelihoods, not political pawns. The courts agree.”
Morgan McGarvey has served in the U.S. Congress since 2023 after succeeding John Yarmuth. Before his tenure in Congress, McGarvey served in the Kentucky House of Representatives from 2019 to 2023 and in the Kentucky Senate from 2013 to 2023. He was born in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1979 and continues to reside there. McGarvey holds a BA from the University of Missouri and a JD from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
