Rep. Morgan McGarvey, a U.S. Congressman representing Kentucky’s 3rd district since 2023, used his social media platform on April 15, 2026, to criticize Russ Vought and Republican policies related to federal assistance programs.
In one post, McGarvey commented on the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP), stating: “LIHEAP makes sure seniors can afford to heat and cool their homes — Russ Vought calls that fraud. Apparently he assumes any senior who doesn’t want to overheat or freeze to death in their home is committing fraud.” This tweet was published on April 15, 2026.
Later that day, McGarvey addressed Vought’s appearance before Congress regarding the federal budget: “Russ Vought came to Congress to defend Trump’s abomination of a budget. Didn’t go well.” The statement was posted on April 15, 2026.
In another post from the same date, McGarvey criticized Republican efforts concerning food benefit programs: “Last year, Republicans made the largest cuts to food benefits in our history. Now, they want to slash food benefits for new moms and their babies. I asked Russ Vought about it — he lied.”
Morgan McGarvey has represented Kentucky’s 3rd District in Congress since replacing John Yarmuth in 2023. He previously served in both the Kentucky House of Representatives and the Kentucky Senate between 2013 and 2023. Born in Louisville in 1979, McGarvey holds degrees from the University of Missouri and the University of Kentucky College of Law.
