Senator McConnell’s Press Office has recently addressed legislative efforts targeting intoxicating THC products, with a focus on protecting industrial hemp and CBD. The office emphasized Senator McConnell’s intention to safeguard children from potentially dangerous substances, referencing broad support from health and safety organizations.
On November 11, 2025, the press office posted: “.@SenMcConnell Hemp Provision Targets Intoxicating THC Products; Protects Industrial Hemp and CBD https://t.co/DNkJijTKPD”.
In a subsequent post dated November 13, 2025, the office reiterated Senator McConnell’s position: “Sen. McConnell has said his aim is to protect kids from consuming dangerous intoxicating products…And his office noted more than 80 health and safety groups signed a letter sent to Congress in September urging lawmakers to close the loophole. https://t.co/0yqZikNAAs”.
Another message on November 13 highlighted local involvement: “There were two Kentucky-based groups that signed the letter which said the current federal definition of hemp ‘has created serious challenges for regulators and public-health officials, while fueling widespread, largely unmonitored sales of highly intoxicating product.'”
These statements come amid ongoing debates about how federal law defines hemp and its derivatives. Since the passage of the Agriculture Improvement Act of 2018 (commonly known as the Farm Bill), which legalized industrial hemp containing less than 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight, concerns have arisen regarding unregulated intoxicating products derived from hemp. Lawmakers continue to discuss regulatory gaps affecting consumer safety and market oversight.
