While the Bellarmine University men's cross country program will have no intention of stopping here, the 2022 campaign will nonetheless go down as one steeped in history.

On Saturday in the ASUN Championship, the Knights lived up to lofty expectations after placing fifth out of 14 as a team while an astonishing five harriers delivered Bellarmine all-time top-16 performances in the 8k at John Hunt Park.

"The men ran an extremely smart race," Knights Coach Chase Broughton said. "They got out conservative and moved up throughout the entire race. All year we talked about closing the gap down to the top 4 teams in the conference, and we accomplished that well this year."

Sophomore Nolan Hester paced Bellarmine by finishing in 23rd. His 24:18.8 marked the fifth-fastest time in program history. Hester now owns three of the program's all-time top-5 marks in the 8k, with each of those performances coming this season.

Sophomore Paul Stamm placed 27th in 24:28.5, which ranks as the eighth-best time in program history. In his first season at Bellarmine, Stamm posted the sixth, seventh and eighth top times in Knights annals.

Junior Nick Lewis took 32nd in 24:43.2. Not only was that the 10th-best time in program history, Lewis rocketed up from 11th to fourth on the performance list (measures PR).

Sophomore Wil Stamm finished 39th in 24:51, which ranks 15th all-time. Stamm also catapulted from 15th to sixth on the performance list.

Sophomore D.K. Schnieders rounded out Bellarmine's top 5 in 41st. His 24:52.2 ranks 16th all-time and seventh on the performance list. Sophomore Hunter Griffin placed 48th and his 25:10.4 is the 41st-best time in program history.

Sophomore Jackson Gawarecki (58th, 25:32.2), freshman Nolan White (67th, 25:56.1) and sophomore Josh Meiman (74th, 26:07.6) also competed for the Knights.

Eastern Kentucky (18) captured the team title. Liberty (73) was the runner-up.

"We don't lose anyone that ran this race today," Broughton said, "so I'm very excited to see what this group does this time next year."
