LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Louisville Parks and Recreation's Art in the Park returns for its fourth year this month in celebration of Park and Recreation Month. Art in the Park will take place at Central Park on July 18, 2023 from 6-10 p.m.

This year, Louisville Parks and Recreation is again partnering with Kentucky Shakespeare, bringing focus to theater as a medium of art, and providing family-family activities before the show. Free arts and crafts booths, food trucks and face painting will be set up from 6-8 p.m. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, presented by Kentucky Shakespeare, will begin at 8 p.m. on the C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheater stage and close out the night.

“We’re delighted to once again welcome families to beautiful Central Park for fun activities celebrating the arts. We hope to welcome you to the performance as well, featuring comedy, romance, and flying fairies!”, said Matt Wallace, Producing Artistic Director with Kentucky Shakespeare.

In addition to the arts and crafts booths, this year’s Art in the Park also features entertainment from a balloon animal and caricature artist. Red Top Hot Dogs and Addison’s Treat Shop will be on site starting at 6 p.m. Other Shakespeare Festival activities in Central Park include Kids’ Globe with free interactive youth activities, Will’s Gift Shop and Will’s Tavern, each beginning at 7 p.m. and running through the course of the performance.

“Art in the Park not only showcases our vibrant parks system, but wonderful arts community in Louisville. We look forward to highlighting Park and Recreation month in this way, and we are so appreciative of Kentucky Shakespeare, The Parks Alliance of Louisville, The Old Louisville Neighborhood Association, Wilderness Louisville and Olmsted Parks Conservancy, which recently installed an all-inclusive playground in Central Park, for their partnership to make this event happen,” said Ozzy Gibson, Interim Director of Louisville Parks and Recreation.

For the first time in 2022, July was declared National Park and Recreation Month in Louisville. Residents are also encouraged to celebrate Park and Recreation month by visiting one of Louisville’s 120+ public parks and amenities. To find a park near you, visit bestparksever.com.
