162 coaches at institutions in Jefferson County earned $282,176 on average in 2022

Jefferson County’s 162 coaches earned an average salary of $282,176 in 2022, according to the U.S. Department of Education.

This is the second highest average salary per county earned by coaches at Kentucky post-secondary schools during 2022.

Jefferson County is home to four post-secondary schools that paid coaches during 2022. Among them, University of Louisville stood out with the highest average coaching salary of $619,200.

Male coaches of men's teams received $436,811 on average in Jefferson County, while female coaches in charge of women's teams earned an average of $151,746.

Research from the Vanderbilt Owen Graduate School of Management found NCAA coaches are compensated like CEOs, with top coaches earning more than $1.5 million annually.
