A Louisville man has been sentenced to over eight years in federal prison for illegal firearm possession. The sentence was announced by U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky, alongside Special Agent in Charge R. Shawn Morrow of the ATF Louisville Field Division and Chief Paul Humphrey of the Louisville Metro Police Department.

U.S. Attorney Bennett stated, “Mr. Bobbitt earned every day of his eight plus year federal prison sentence.” He highlighted Jaron Bobbitt's extensive criminal history, which includes felony convictions in nine state court cases since 2001, noting that his removal from the community benefits all citizens.

Court documents reveal that Bobbitt, aged 39, was sentenced to 8 years and 3 months in prison with an additional three years of supervised release. His conviction stems from illegally possessing an Anderson Manufacturing AM-15 multi-caliber pistol and ammunition. On November 13, 2023, Bobbitt led officers on a foot chase through residential areas while armed with the weapon. During the pursuit, he endangered officers' lives by pointing the gun at them before being apprehended after an officer discharged his weapon.

Bobbitt's previous convictions include felon in possession of a firearm and receiving stolen property on November 9, 2021; escape in the second degree on January 16, 2019; and various other offenses dating back to December 3, 2001.

The investigation was conducted by the ATF with assistance from the Louisville Metro Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh Porter prosecuted the case.

This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence through collaboration between law enforcement agencies and communities. The program emphasizes fostering trust within communities, supporting violence prevention organizations, setting strategic enforcement priorities, and measuring outcomes.
