Senior Zander Hooten set a new men’s 110-meter hurdle program record for Bellarmine University track and field during the University of Kentucky’s Jim Green Invitational, according to a May 3 announcement.
The achievement marks the second consecutive week that Hooten has broken the program record in this event. He finished third in the finals with a time of 14.18 seconds, surpassing his previous best of 14.26 seconds from last week’s Jim Freeman/Clark Wood Invitational.
In addition to Hooten’s performance, two other Bellarmine athletes reached the finals in the men’s 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Taevion Sweeney placed seventh with a time of 14.67 seconds, while junior Carter Olmsted finished eighth at 14.90 seconds.
Senior Alex Hooten was runner-up in the men’s 800-meter Open event with a time of 1:51.07 and also took seventh place in the men’s 1500 meters at 3:49.71. Several teammates also ranked within the top half for their events, including freshman Jack Moutardier (ninth in the men’s 800 meters), junior Chase Austin (13th), and freshman Buzz Christensen (17th). Junior Amelia Svidal placed fourth in the women’s triple jump and eighth in long jump.
Other notable finishes included sophomore Grant King placing within the top twenty for both men’s sprints, freshman Caysie Brady ranking thirteenth in women’s hammer throw Open, freshman Dylan Forster taking thirteenth place in men’s shot put, and senior Alex Cole competing well in men’s discus.
Bellarmine is scheduled to compete next at the ASUN Outdoor Championships from May 14-16 in Jacksonville, Florida.
