Men's Basketball wins battle of the birds
The Golden Eagles put together their best performance of the season in a 79-54 rout of Westminster College in St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SLIAC) action.
Spalding sits at 3-13 overall after the win and is 2-4 in SLIAC play. The Blue Jays fell to 2-15 on the year with a 1-5 conference mark.
TURNING POINT
The Golden Eagle team in Saturday's contest looked the best it has all year on both ends of the ball. In the first half things started out tight, but soon went towards SU. A 9-1 run late in the first built the home team's lead to 16.
The deep shot propelled Spalding as the team shot a season-best % 57.1 percent (8-14) from behind the arc. The eight deep baskets made tied the team's high from earlier this season. Even more impressive was Caden Bradford going a perfect 4-4 from deep in the game.
It was more Golden Eagle domination in the second half. The streaking SU team led by double digits from 11:13 in the second frame onward. Defense played a large part in the rout as Spalding forced a season-high 23 turnovers from Westminster. Those turnovers turned into 27 of the Golden Eagle's 79 points.
The all-around performance resulted in a 79-54 drubbing of the Blue Jays.
