Nance wins SoCon Wrestler of the Week
For the first time this season, and second time in program history, a Bellarmine wrestler has been named SoCon Wrestler of the Week. Sophomore Cole Nance claimed the award, his first, after going 4-0 at 165 pounds. The Lawrenceburg, Kentucky, native defeated Presbyterian's Tyler Chittum with a pin 2:31 into the match on Thursday to wrap up SoCon competition. Two days later, Nance won three matches during the NWCA Great Lakes Championships to claim the title in his weight class. Nance's first victory of the day came via pin over Akron wrestler Hamza Sawalha in the quarterfinals. In the semifinals, the sophomore earned a 12-0 major decision win against Ohio State WC's Jake Gooding. Nance concluded his day by earning his third pin of the week in the finals against Yury Pozdneev of Ohio State WC.
Nance leads Bellarmine with 27 wins this season and ranks second on the team with 11 pins.
Bellarmine concludes its season at the NWCA National Duals in Puerto Rico March 9-11.
