Later that day, he commented on income disparities and social security concerns by contrasting the average income at a retirement home in Kentucky with Elon Musk's earnings. He stated: "The average income at a retirement home in Kentucky is $54,439 — Elon Musk makes that in less than 3 minutes. He has no idea what it’s like to depend on Social Security, but that won't stop him from trying to take it from you."

On March 4, 2025, McGarvey criticized former President Donald Trump's tariff policies. He tweeted: "Tariffs should be used as a scalpel, not a sledgehammer. Donald Trump's blanket tariffs on Canada and Mexico are a sledgehammer, and they'll raise costs for Kentuckians across the board."
