Baseball to make home debut against Evansville

The Bellarmine University baseball team will make its long-awaited home debut when the Knights welcome Evansville for a 2 p.m. (ET) contest Wednesday at Knights Field.

Bellarmine (5-11) opened 2023 with 16 straight road games. The Knights are looking to break a nine-game skid where four of the contests were decided by two runs or less, including three of the four games in BU's most recent series at Indiana.

Dual threat Casey Sorg is Bellarmine's probable starter and, at the plate, carries an 11-game hitting streak. The switch hitter collected two hits in all four games against Indiana and has eight multi-hit performances on the season while batting a team-high .367.

Senior outfielder Will Aubel and junior outfielder Reed Blaszczyk are tied for the team lead with three homers apiece. Aubel and senior second baseman Peyton Back have notched 12 RBI apiece, while Sorg, senior outfielder Tommy Dilz and freshman utility Brady Morse have five doubles each.

Evansville (9-7) dropped its first five games, but the Aces have been hot ever since, winning series against Eastern Michigan, Bowling Green and Middle Tennessee, the middle of which was a four-game sweep. The Aces are coming off consecutive 5-3 wins at Middle Tennessee.

Chase Hug is hitting .421 with three homers, four doubles and 14 RBI for Evansville. Eric Roberts is the RBI leader with 18 while Kip Fougerousse has gone deep a team-high four times. The Aces' team ERA is 4.76.
