Louisville, KY: This morning, Councilman Robin Engel submitted a "District 22 Update" to the people he serves to let them know that he would conclude his work on the Metro Council at the end of his term in December of 2024. Below is a copy of the text from his District 22 Update.

“District 22 friends and neighbors, I would like to take this opportunity to share some important news with you. After much prayerful consideration and discussions with my family over the past several weeks, I have decided that I will end my service on the Louisville Metro Council at the end of my term in December of 2024. The opportunity to work on your behalf for the past 20 years as the District 22 Councilman has been the honor of a lifetime. As a member of the inaugural Louisville Metro Council in 2003, I have had the pleasure of playing a role in the establishment of the foundation of our new merged government, working with three different Mayors and serving one of the fastest growing parts of the county.

I am proud to have been an advocate for the Fern Creek area during my tenure and have had the pleasure of working with so many outstanding individuals throughout my career. I would like to thank my long time and now retired Legislative Assistant Monica Hodge for her years of dedication and service, as well as Leslie Curneal, Jared Townes, and most recently Chris Lewis for being part of my team as we worked to bring better infrastructure, improved parks, more shopping options and most importantly a new and much improved library back to our neighborhood. I would also like to thank the Fern Creek Chamber of Commerce for being such a tremendous partner with the District 22 office in promoting our businesses, and bringing new growth and development to the area.

While I am making this announcement today, I still have more than a year to close out many of the projects I have underway. In my final year on the Metro Council, we will hold town hall meetings on the new Fern Creek Library, and we will see the start of construction. In the spring we will see even more improvements being made to Fern Creek Park with new pickleball courts being added and as the pavement warms following this winter, we will see unprecedented investment in paving District 22 streets as well as work to fix broken sidewalks. This final year, I promise to run through the finish-line and make sure that my successor is ready to continue the important work we have taken on together.

I thank you for your trust over the years and look forward to seeing you around the district over the coming months.”

Accomplishments of Councilman Robin Engel:

  • Approval and fully funding the construction of a new $15 million Fern Creek Library

  • Designation of Bardstown Road Corridor as a Parkway to protect and enhance the aesthetics of the area as developments have exploded.
  • Over $4 million in improvements to Charlie Vettiner Park Through the construction of a new Golf Clubhouse as well as the construction of new tennis courts, pickleball courts, a new picnic pavilion and an extremely popular dog park.
  • Led efforts to increase investment in paving from under $3 million annually to a record investment of over $30 million in the current Fiscal Year.
  • Served as Minority Caucus Chair for multiple years as well as Chair and Vice Chair of the Metro Council’s Public Works Committee, member of the Metro Council’s Budget Committee, and multi-year Chair of the Appropriations Committee.
