Louisville, KY – Metro Councilman Khalil Batshon (District 25) and Kentucky State Senator David Yates (District 37) announce that the 2023 Gavin Chase Coat-A-Kid Drive was able to collect more than 450 coats plus dozens of scarves, hats, and gloves as part of the annual coat drive.Councilman Batshon opened the collection efforts on December 10th at the 2nd Annual Light Up Valley Station event and concluded the collection on Friday, December 15th. As a result, more than 450 children will be able to travel to and from school in seasonally appropriate winter coats and other basic winter clothing.
“Working with the dedicated Family Resource and Youth Service Center Coordinators in our schools, we have begun the process of handing out coats to children in need. I thank Stomping Grounds Coffee Shop, Shirley’s Way, the Kentucky Restaurant Association, Derby City Pizza, Kentuckiana Retail Association and Publix Super Markets, Inc. for their contributions to this year’s success.” – Councilman Khalil Batshon
Donated coats have continued to arrive past the conclusion of the coat drive. The coats have been handed out to various JCPS Schools as they were received, with the final delivery of coats planned for Trunnell Elementary School (7609 St. Andrews Church Road) at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, December 21st. Any person or group interested in making a financial contribution towards the drive can do so by visiting www.ChaseGavinCoatAKid.org. This link will remain open and will facilitate donations leading into the 2024 drive.
