Swimming closes out competition at Ohio Invitational

The Bellarmine men's and women's swim teams competed at the Ohio Invitational this weekend in Athens, Ohio.

Wingate and Findlay were the other teams in the pool, while the Bobcats' women team also competed.  On the women's side, the Knights placed fourth with 370 points on the weekend.  Ohio earned first place (1,805), Wingate placed second (1,088), and Findlay placed third (526).

On the men's side, Bellarmine placed third with 744 points.  Wingate earned the team victory with 1716.5 points, while Findlay placed second with 1055.5 points.

Lauren Diercks and Alexandra Pierce both turned in top-10 finshes for the women, while Jacob Dray and Cason Henderson tallied top-five finishes for the men's team.

Notable finishes for the women's team included:

Lauren Diercks – 6th place in the 100 backstroke (59.33), 8th place in the 200 backstroke (2:10.25)

Pierce – 9th place in the 200 breaststroke (2:26.57), 10th place in the 100 breaststroke (1:08.40)

Notable finishes for the men's team included:

Jacob Dray – 4th place in the 100 butterfly (50.44), 8th place in the 200 butterfly (1:58.25)

Cason Henderson – 4th place in the 200 butterfly (1:56.13)

Kenton Whiteley – 6th place in the 200 breaststroke (2:13.67)

JP Metzner – 6th place in the 100 butterfly (51.31), 8th place in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.89)

Brandon Thomas – 7th place in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.75), 8th place in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.09)

Blake Whiteley – 8th place in the 100 backstroke (53.23)

Liam Connelly – 9th place in the 400 IM (4:14.84)

Bellarmine travels to Eastern Illinois next weekend for a double dual with EIU and Valparaiso on Saturday, Oct. 22.
