Louisville, KY: Metro Council member Dan Seum, Jr. (District 13) along with Metro Council colleagues, Kentucky State FOP Vice President Ryan Straw, and Dave Mutchler with the River City Fraternal Order of Police participated in a press conference on Wednesday, June 7, 2023 to commemorate the unanimous passage of a bipartisan resolution honoring September as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month.

“The men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department put their lives on the line every day in service to our community. They have a tough job of showing up to difficult and dangerous situations ready to help. Declaring September as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month in Louisville is one small way to show our appreciation and support for our officers.” - Metro Councilman Dan Seum, Jr., District 13

"The Jefferson County FOP Presidents Council along with the Kentucky State FOP is elated that Metro Council has recognized September as Law Enforcement Appreciation Month here in Louisville. Thank you to Councilman Seum who led the charge to make this happen along with all of Metro Council who voted unanimously for this resolution. Over 2000 men and women serve in law enforcement roles in Metro Louisville and Jefferson County and we look forward to celebrating with the community as we acknowledge the hard work being done to keep our communities safe." - Ryan Straw, Kentucky State FOP Vice President

Highlights of the Resolution 037, Series 2023

For full text of the resolution - CLICK HERE

  • The resolution acknowledges the selflessness and courage of the city’s police officers who have bravely continued to meet the call of duty to ensure the security of our neighborhoods and communities at the risk of their own personal safety.
  • The resolution encourages residents and businesses in Metro to show appreciation to police officers through acts of kindness and appreciation to those protecting our community. Further, it urges residents and businesses to support the men and women of the Louisville Metro Police Department through participation in a celebratory event in September in conjunction with the Louisville Metro Police Foundation.
  • There are many ways to show support in September:
    • Consider dropping off snacks, drinks, or gift cards to your closest patrol division.
    • Pay it forward. Pay for their meal at a restaurant or drive thru.
    • Write thank you letters and letters of appreciation for officers.
    • Give verbal praise and support when seeing someone in uniform
    • Donating to the Metro Police Foundation to fund programs like “Officer in Distress”, “Shop with a Cop” or other services meant to support injured or fallen officers and their families. (website: saferlouisville.org/donate)
