Kentucky Shakespeare Festival in Central Park

Louisville  – Join Councilman Phillip Baker (D-6) in Central Park in Historic Old Louisville for the 63rd season of the Kentucky Shakespeare Festival this summer.

The season will feature seven different productions including A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Macbeth, Love’s Labor’s Lost, Two Gentlemen of Verona, Shakespeare in Dance, Late Night Shakes, and GLOBE Arm Wrestling.

The free nightly performances will be held at C. Douglas Ramey Amphitheater, Central Park, 1340 South Fourth Street (corner of Fourth Street and Magnolia Avenue). Food and drinks will be available for purchase and pets on a leash are welcome.

The amphitheater features permanent bench seating, with additional open spaces available for portable chairs and blankets in front and behind the bench seating and on the lawn. There is also picnic table seating available at the rear of the amphitheater.

“I look forward to welcoming you to Historic Old Louisville for these free nightly performances of Kentucky Shakespeare. Bring your family and friends and enjoy a beautiful night in Central Park,” said Councilman Baker.

The nightly schedule is as follows:

  • 6 PM – Food Trucks
  • 7 PM – Kids’ Globe, Will’s Gift Shop, Will’s Tavern
  • 7:15 PM – Community Pre-Show Performance
  • 8 PM – Performance
Season Schedule

  • A Midsummer Night’s Dream

    May 24 – June 11; July 12, 15, 18 and 21 (no performances on Mondays and Tuesdays in June)

  • Macbeth

    June 15-25; July 11, 14, 19 and 22 (no performances on Mondays and Tuesdays in June)

  • Love’s Labor’s Lost

    June 29 – July 9; July 13, 16, 20 and 23

  • Kentucky Shakespeare’s Globe Players Professional training program for high school students presents The Two Gentlemen of Verona

    July 26-30

  • Louisville Ballet presents Shakespeare in Dance: Lady M

    August 2-6

  • Louisville Improvisors presents Late Night Shakes

    10:30 PM performances on June 10, June 24, July 8, and July 22

  • Louisville Fringe Festival presents GLOBE Arm Wrestling

    10:30 PM performances on June 17, July 1, and July 15

ASL interpretation will be provided for the following performances: Thursday, June 1 for A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Thursday, June 22 for Macbeth, Thursday, July 6 for Love’s Labor’s Lost, and Thursday, July 27 for Two Gentlemen of Verona. (If show canceled due to inclement weather, the makeup rain date will be the following evening – Friday.)

Parking Information

There is street parking available surrounding the park on Fourth Street, Magnolia Avenue, Sixth Street, and Park Avenue. Please do not park in front of any of the bus stop signs, or you may be ticketed or towed. There are a limited number of accessible spots in the parking lot behind the information center with a sidewalk ramp into the park.
