Louisville Metro Government, the Kentucky Solar Energy Society (KYSES) and the Louisville Sustainability Council (LSC) announced on Thursday that the deadline to apply for Solar Over Louisville has been extended. Interested property owners now have until Monday, July 31, to take advantage of this unique opportunity and join their neighbors in going solar.
“We are thrilled to see our community’s continued interest and investment in clean energy. We are thankful to our partners, the Kentucky Solar Energy Society, the Louisville Sustainability Council, Solar Energy Solutions and Icon Solar who have worked with us to extend the deadline and allow more property owners to take advantage of this fantastic program,” said Mayor Craig Greenberg.
In 2022, more than 90 participants received solar installations through Solar Over Louisville. This year, hundreds have expressed interest in the program and more than 30 have signed contracts since the launch of the program in March.
Solar Over Louisville is a groundbreaking initiative that simplifies solar investment for residents, small businesses, nonprofits and places of worship by making it easier than ever to embrace clean and renewable energy solutions. Through partnerships with vetted and trusted solar installers Solar Energy Solutions and Icon Solar, Solar Over Louisville ensures participants benefit from excellent service, consistent panel pricing and a discount ranging from 15-23%.
Solar Over Louisville participants can now also take advantage of an additional benefit: a 30% federal tax credit, further enhancing the financial feasibility of going solar.
Residential buildings account for over a quarter of Louisville’s greenhouse gas emissions. Rooftop solar presents an opportunity for individuals to reduce their energy costs and combat climate change. Nationwide, barriers such as lack of solar education and high upfront costs have hindered its widespread adoption. Solarize programs like Solar Over Louisville effectively address these barriers, helping property owners easily access the far-reaching benefits of solar energy, such as reduced energy costs and potentially increased property values. Further, Louisvillians can actively support the creation of local solar jobs while helping Louisville move closer to its goal of achieving 100% clean energy community-wide by 2040.
Solar Over Louisville’s vetted solar installation partners, Icon Solar and Solar Energy Solutions, will co-host a workshop July 12 from 5-7 p.m. at the Mezzanine of Atrium Brewing Norton Commons, 11205 River Beauty Loop in Prospect. This free event, open to the public, will provide an opportunity to ask questions and learn more about going solar.
