Louisville – Councilwoman Jennifer Chappell (D-15) and Councilman Phillip Baker (D-6) are actively recruiting volunteers to participate in an upcoming tree planting event on Saturday, December 2, 2023.

Louisville Grows, in collaboration with the MSD Urban Reforestation Program grant, will be planting a total of 125 new trees to benefit residents in the Schnitzelburg, Germantown, and Paristown neighborhoods during this one-day event. The volunteer effort will run from 9:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m.

These new trees are a direct response to combatting the urban heat island effect in residential areas, and your participation will play an important role in making a positive environmental impact.

“The benefits of trees are tremendous—but these benefits can only be reaped if the trees are planted! Help us in creating a greener Louisville by volunteering for this incredible event. Tree planting days are one of my favorite volunteer opportunities in the city, so come on out because a little dirt don't hurt!” said Councilwoman Chappell.

No prior experience is necessary to participate, as all volunteers will receive guidance from Louisville Grows’ training Citizen Foresters. To sign up to volunteer, please visit: https://tinyurl.com/SGPTreePlanting23.

Volunteers should plan to meet the All Wool and Yard Wide Club, located at 1328 Hickory Street at 9:00 a.m.

“This is a great opportunity for young people to earn service credits, while giving back to our community and environment. Let’s work together to improve Louisville, one neighborhood at a time,” said Councilman Baker.

To prepare for the tree planting event, Louisville Grows is seeking volunteers to help deliver trees to the Treecipients on Tuesday, November 28 and Wednesday, November 29. Volunteers can sign up for a morning or afternoon shift. For more details and to register, please visit https://tinyurl.com/TreeStaging23.
