Rep. Morgan McGarvey, who currently serves in the U.S. Congress representing Kentucky’s 3rd district, has recently engaged with his community through a series of tweets. McGarvey, who took over from John Yarmuth in 2023, addressed a range of topics from community celebrations to serious social issues.
On April 13, McGarvey extended warm wishes for Passover, stating, "Happy Passover to all celebrating in Louisville! Wishing our Jewish neighbors a joyful and meaningful celebration with loved ones. Chag Pesach Sameach!".
Further showing his commitment to community issues, Rep. McGarvey commented on events involving Governor Shapiro on April 14. He expressed his gratitude for the safety of the governor and his family, praising first responders while condemning violence: "Grateful that Governor Shapiro and his family are unharmed, and thankful to the first responders who acted quickly to keep them safe. This kind of violence cannot be tolerated and should not be hard to condemn.".
Rep. McGarvey also shared a somber message on April 15, remembering victims of a mass shooting in Louisville’s Chickasaw Park. He tweeted, "Today, we remember those we lost two years ago at Chickasaw Park—the second of two mass shootings in just one week in Louisville. We still grieve the Louisvillians we lost — David and Deaji — and I'm holding their family and loved ones in my heart today.".
Rep. McGarvey, 43, resides in Louisville where he was born. He graduated with a BA from the University of Missouri and earned a JD from the University of Kentucky College of Law.
