Louisville – The Louisville Metro Council is embracing the holiday spirit this year by spearheading a city-wide food donation initiative to support the Association of Community Ministries (ACM).
The donation drive is set to kick off on Monday, November 20, and will continue until Monday, December 11. The collected donations will be distributed to ACM and divided among the thirteen area community ministries serving Louisville.
“Our community as a whole is seeing a sharp increase in requests for food assistance. Our neighbors in every zip code are experiencing need and the Community Ministries across Jefferson County are so honored to be ready to respond. We’re grateful for the support of the Metro Council, particularly at this time of year when going without can be especially painful,” said Reverend Carrie Gerard, Executive Director of Eastern Area Community Ministries.

“As President of the Metro Council I’m excited to lead a city-wide collection effort to assist individuals and families in need during the holiday season. I encourage you to keep this cause in mind during your next shopping trip. The numerous collection sites spread across the city will make it easy for you to participate,” said President Markus Winkler (D-17).
The most urgently needed items at this time are canned proteins, such as beef stew, canned chicken, canned tuna, and hearty soups. ACM has also requested tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, canned potatoes, and boxed potatoes.

“I’d also like to announce a community challenge! Our goal is to collect 1,000 food items for ACM this season, which translates to just under forty (40) items per Council District. I hope we can begin with this meager goal and surpass it this season,” said Winkler.
