In honor of the 60th anniversary of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, U.S. Attorney Michael A. Bennett of the Western District of Kentucky joined national leaders this week in celebrating this significant milestone in the country's pursuit of equality.

“Our office stands firmly committed to upholding the principles enshrined in the Civil Rights Act,” stated U.S. Attorney Bennett. “We will continue our diligent efforts to protect and uphold civil rights throughout the Western District of Kentucky.”

The United States Attorney’s Office’s Civil Rights Program aims to protect the rights of vulnerable and underserved community members by enforcing federal civil and criminal civil rights laws. The office has two designated civil attorneys, Assistant United States Attorneys Jessica R. C. Malloy and Calesia Henson, who specialize in enforcing anti-discrimination laws. These protections cover discrimination based on race, color, ethnicity, religion, sex, national origin, citizenship, immigration status, sexual orientation, gender identity, familial status, or disability. They also safeguard the civil rights of servicemembers, incarcerated individuals, those housed in public institutions, and persons with limited English proficiency.

Additionally, two Assistant United States Attorneys in the Criminal Division coordinate efforts to prosecute violations of criminal civil rights statutes. Assistant United States Attorney Chris Tieke handles prosecutions for criminal civil rights violations, while Assistant United States Attorney Erin McKenzie focuses on prosecuting human trafficking cases involving labor or commercial sex exploitation.

For those who believe their civil rights have been violated, contact can be made with the United States Attorney’s Office’s Civil Rights Program at (502) 582-6023 or via email at usakyw-civilrights@usdoj.gov. Complaints can also be mailed to:
