On March 5, 2025, Rep. McGarvey criticized former President Donald Trump's financial policies by stating: "Confirming what we already know: Donald Trump's funding freeze is an unconstitutional power grab."

Later that day, he expressed pride in a legislative achievement with the House Small Business Committee Democrats passing his bill aimed at supporting disabled entrepreneurs. He tweeted: "Very proud to see @HSBCDems pass my bill to better support disabled Americans who want to start their own businesses. People with disabilities make up just 6% of our country’s small business owners — let's change that."
